#Truth Restored #Palmyra
Three hundred miles from New York City, there’s a ten-acre patch of forest, which more than 100,000 people visit every year.

Why do they choose to come here?

To remember a prayer from almost 200 years ago. A prayer that has changed their lives.

More than 15 million people trace their faith’s roots to events that took place in this forest, to the questions a young Joseph Smith asked and the answers God gave.

Four firsthand accounts, combined with insights from historical research, give us a glimpse into the years that helped turn a boy into a prophet.
Joseph Smith’s journey toward the Sacred Grove began in 1816 with a devastating economic crisis. Frosts every month of the year and snowstorms in June killed crop after crop in Vermont, driving food prices up and thousands of poor, broken farmers—including the Smith family—from the state.

By the time 11-year-old Joseph Smith arrived in New York, he had experienced both the cruelty and compassion those desperate times drew out of people.

Over the next few years, as he worked with his parents and older siblings to carve out a living for their family of 10, he often reflected on “the situation of the world of mankind.”

Why were humans so often so thoughtless in spite of their best religious ideals? And why did he, as a youth, often fail to live up to what he knew was good and right?

“I felt to mourn for my own sins and for the sins of the world.”
Family experiences of misfortune and mistreatment may have shaped Joseph Smith’s questions about God, society, and the meaning of life.
By 1818, the Smiths had scraped together enough money to start making payments on a new farm of their own. The religious revivalism of the era encouraged them to seek a fresh spiritual start as well.

As a young person with deeply felt spiritual questions, Joseph felt drawn to the lively religious landscape of upstate New York.

He was not alone. In churches, homes, and open-air clearings, people gathered to discuss human nature, forgiveness, morality, and authority. Together, they struggled to understand the lessons of the past and the direction of the future.

Unfortunately, the debate was not always civil. Records from the era contain not only sharp rebukes of ideas but also snide attacks on those who held them. Joseph often felt caught in the crossfire of this “war of words.”
In this 1820 article, for example, the editor of Palmyra’s newspaper claimed it was a “notorious fact” that Methodist camp-meetings attracted “the intemperate, the lewd and dissolute part of the community.” Demeaning statements such as this one may have contributed to the feeling of religious tumult as much as doctrinal differences did.

“It was impossible for a person young as I was, and so unacquainted with men and things, to come to any certain conclusion who was right and who was wrong.”

In the face of the divisions and imperfections he saw in religion, Joseph could have given up. But he continued to attend the meetings of different churches “as often as occasion would permit” and to reflect on what he heard.

And as he searched for truth, Joseph felt God’s presence in the world around him: in the light of the sun and the beauty of the moon, in the richness of the earth and the wealth of life flourishing on it.
Though uncertain of his own standing before God and unable to find a religion that felt right, Joseph gained confidence that God existed and was worth reaching toward.

“God could not be the author of so much confusion.”

In addition to attendance at different churches and personal meditation, Joseph searched for God by studying the Bible. And one day, while reading James 1:5, he felt that God was speaking directly to him through that ancient text.

“If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God,
that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not;
and it shall be given him.”

“Never did any passage of scripture come with more power to the heart of man than this did at this time to mine.”

Ask of God. It sounded so simple, but Joseph had never prayed out loud before—let alone asked God for a direct answer.

And yet there didn’t seem to be any other way. “At length,” he later wrote, “I came to the conclusion that I must either remain in darkness and confusion, or else I must do as James directs, that is, ask of God.”

“I retired to the silent grove...”

He chose a place first: a quiet spot in the woods where he could feel at once alone and surrounded by God’s creation. And then, early one morning, he knelt there to “offer up the desires of [his] heart to God.”
We do not and cannot know all that was in Joseph’s heart that morning. We know he felt the weight of a broken world and of his own shortcomings. We know he longed for a faith and community led by Jesus Christ. And we know that God knew his heart and saw that it was open.
After an initial struggle to pray, Joseph was “surrounded by a brilliant light which eclipsed the sun at noon-day” and felt a “joy unspeakable.” In the light, he saw two figures “whose brightness and glory defy all description”—God the Father and Jesus Christ.

But as magnificent as the vision was, even more important was its message. Jesus told Joseph that people had turned away from Him; though they still spoke of Christ, they had lost the full power of his truth.
The church Joseph was looking for no longer existed on the earth — but the time would soon come when it would be restored, when old prophecies and covenants would begin to be fulfilled.

The time would soon come when the Lord would have a work for Joseph Smith to do.

Friends and family, i know that This is Christ’s true church on the earth today. I know that it was restored through the Prophet Joseph Smith and that He was and is called of God to establish Christ’s church once again on the earth. I would encourage you all to kneel down tonight and ask God if Joseph smith is a prophet and if The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is Christ’s true church on the earth today. I know that you will each receive an answer if you earnestly do as Moroni has taught us. “ Behold, I would exhort you that when ye shall read these things, if it be wisdom in God that ye should read them, that ye would remember how merciful the Lord hath been unto the children of men, from the creation of Adam even down until the time that ye shall receive these things, and ponder it in your hearts.
And when ye shall receive these things, I would exhort you that ye would ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ, if these things are not true; and if ye shall ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Christ, he will manifest the truth of it unto you, by the power of the Holy Ghost.
And by the power of the Holy Ghost ye may know the truth of all things.”
I Love and miss you all so much! Have a great week! And Happy Mother's day to all you fantabulous mothers out there! <3

What an incredible week!

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Greenwood how i love being home.... even if it is only for 2 days <3

This week was a crazy long one! Monday after we were done emailing we jumped in the car and went to Greenwood! We were there until Tuesday around supper! We came home and had a lesson! Ill talk about it more below! Wednesday we got up went to Zone Conference! Then we were off to New Glasgow! For those that are wondering the sister in my profile picture is a sister serving in New Glasgow! She is from Townsend Montana! I cant even tell you how excited i am to have a sister here from back home! Thursday we left New Glasgow and came back home to have a lesson with our investigator Katelyn that will be getting baptized April 30th! ThenFriday and Saturday Sister Olsen and i worked our butts off so that we could reach all of our goals! And we did! Then yesterday we had a great lesson with Katelyn!

The Area is starting to go crazy! This week was a crazy week, we had a great lesson with Matt on Tuesday night he is now on date for baptism for May 7th! We were following up with him throughout the week and he said that he hadn’t prayed to know if Joseph Smith was a prophet yet so we committed him to pray that night and we followed up the next day and he was like oh my goodness i cant wait to tell you all about it on Tuesday during the lesson i had an amazing experience! We are very excited for his lesson! We will be teaching him The Plan of Salvation and the Word of Wisdom. We would love it if you would be willing to teach the Atonement of Jesus Christ.

We had a great lesson with Katelyn last night! We taught her the laws and ordinances. It was kinda a short lesson but as we were getting ready to close it Roy (investigator that isn’t progressing and has no religious background) spoke up and was like well i have a question... How does forgiveness and family stuff work? so we tried to understand where he was coming from and we ended up talking a lot about the Atonement of Jesus Christ. It was so great the whole Maclennan family started to come into the lesson one by one. We watch the Mormon Message Forgiveness: My burden is made light. It was a life changing experience for EVERYONE in the room myself included. Everyone was bearing testimony, Katelyn started to bear testimony through out it and it was great and powerful. We asked Roy if he would let us and the Maclennan's help him and he said yes. Then we asked him if he knows that God loves him and is his heavenly father and with no hesitation and with complete confidence he said yes.

I honestly cant even say how grateful i am to have the opportunity to serve here and to be able to teach these wonderful children of god. My testimony was strengthened so much last night. I can now see truly how much the Gospel of Jesus Christ can change anyone and everyone.

I truly am so grateful that i chose to serve a mission and i am grateful for the missionaries that served at home that helped impact my decision to serve! Karl and Turtle and many many others, thank you!
I have been able to grow and flourish in the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I know that if i wouldn't have made the decision to come on a mission I probably wouldn't be as happy as I am right now! Not only have I grown but i have helped those in Atlantic Canada come to know that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- Day Saints is the ONLY true church on the earth today and that if we live faithful and righteous lives that we can and will live with our loved ones in the next life! I want you to know that I have a testimony of this Gospel, That i know that God is our loving Heavenly Father and that his Son Jesus Christ is our Saviour and Redeemer. He is the greatest being born to the Earth. He is the PERFECT example of how we should live our lives. He is the lord of lords, king of kings, The Creator, The Saviour, the God of the whole earth, The captain of our salvation, the bright and morning star. He is in all things, above all things, through all things and around all things. He is Alpha and Omega the first and the last, he is the only reason that we can live with our families again. I know that The prophet Joseph Smith is the only person that could have restored this church to the earth and the only human that was able to translate the Book of Mormon. I love this church with all of my heart! I would encourage you to listen to the General Conference! It was so great and i know that it can and will help with what ever trials you are facing right now! I know that i wouldn't have been able to make it as far as i have if it wasn't for all of you at home and most importantly my Heavenly Father and Elder Brother Jesus Christ.

I LOVE YOU!!!!
11 months down.... 7 to go....
idk how i feel about this... the weeks seem to go by faster and faster the longer i am here...

don’t forget i love to hear from you by email but also by letter!

Its gonna be a crazy fun and good transfer so far and its only day 5

Hey Hey! Back is Sackville I am!! What a crazy crazy week it has been! Monday  morning we left Moncton with the car packed and ready to go to Peggy's Cove when we get a call from President Pratt asking us to be to the mission office by 1 so we ended up hanging out at the mission office for a few hours and then we were off to Peggy's Cove with a few other sisters! Monday night we hung out in the Mission Home until probably 11 then i spent the night with the STLT's.

Tuesday morning we got up and went back over to the mission home where we were all day long. We were working on Transfer travel plans and holy cow can we say headache...? But it was a lot of fun! Tuesday night at 10:30 the Sackville Sisters came and picked me up and we went back to the apartment! Wednesday morning we got up and i had a Doctors appointment, which went good i got yet again another inhaler! i think im just gonna become a drug dealer.... lol jk.. or am i.... ;)

Thursday morning was a very early morning. the alarm went off at 4:30 we had to leave the apartment by 5:30 to pick up the elders and get them to the mission office to get on the transfer van... then it was time to do a little bit of studies.. not really i just unpacked. Then we went out to the waterfront it was supper nice that day! Then we got to go to the Temple!!!! ahh i love the temple sooo stinkin much! After the temple we had to drop some elders luggage off at the mission home that was going home so we walked in and Sister Pratt was like "Sister Moore How are you going to get home?" She was like "on an airplane." Sister Pratt said "Where is your passport?" She said "in my bag" Sister pratt said "Go get it i wanna see it" So she goes over gets it and hands it to sister pratt and she said "okay now open it and look at it..." Next thing you hear is "OH MY GOODNESS I HAVE SISTERS LAWS PASSPORT" Sister law  was her old companion currently serving in maine. So they were trying to figure out how they were going to get it soo sister Olsen and i ended up driving to new brunswick and meeting the sisters to change passports. needless to say it was a very long night!

Then Friday was yet again another crazy day we are helping the STLT's and the AP's with a video they are making for zone conference and when they asked president pratt who the "starts" of the video should be he was like Sister Hardy and Olsen! so i guess we will be the stars of the video... It was raining like crazy all day friday and saturday. We watch general conference at the church Saturday at 1 and then had a supper appointment with the greatest family! Then we stayed at their house to watch the 5 oclock session! needless to say i hate watching general conference on a couch with a blanket.... sister olsen, roseleigh and all started to lean on each other and fall asleep... lol

Then Sunday we had a skype call with our District Leaders and Zone Leaders and then we had a meeting at the mission home, so we went there then had lunch president pratt made some delicious soup! then watched general conference there... we may have missed the first 15 mins of it....lol It was so great! then we had to run to the apartment to grab a binder and then back to president pratts home to watch the last session of general conference! It was packed with the missionaries serving in the Metro area! We then had a great lesson with our investigator Katelyn! She is getting baptized on April 16th! It is sooo exciting!

Well i love and miss you all so much!! i cant wait to hear back from everyone!
